Kapshuimun Customs Station were undertaken in order to prevent the buildings which are valuable but at present unoccupied from falling to ruins.
The fifth Vote was originally taken in December last in order to improve the light and ventilation on the lower deck of the 'Hygeia' which was considered by the Principal Civil Medical Officer to be very deficient in those respects. The work was considered urgent. As the work was not completed till this year the Vote had to be re-voted.
The honorarium voted in the 6th Vote was in respect of the Plague Service of Inspector Reidie during the year 1901.
No. 7 and No. 8 are explained in the Minutes.
No. 9. The Vote of $2,400 taken for the year under Sanitary Department "Other Charges' was insufficient owing partly to the drought but principally to the adoption of a system of using Watering Carts in addition to watering with Watering Pots by coolie labour.
The Vote of $2,400 was much exceeded in 1901.
No. 10 and No. 11 are explained in the Minutes.
The item for locked boxes was omitted from this year's Estimates under the impression that they were not required.
